ATENEU COMERCIAL DO PORTO

In downtown Porto, close to the Coliseu and Rua da Santa Catarina, you will find the Ateneu Comercial do Porto. A unique example of a “Private Gentlemen's Club” over 150 years old, created to promote education and maintain good commercial and cultural practices.

Building No. 44 on Rua Passos Manuel, guarded by the trees on the street, gives access to its facilities, with a noble hall, multi-purpose room, library, buffet, bar, barber shop, guest room, games rooms, billiard rooms and reading room, among others.

With a great tradition of balls, soirees and gatherings, it managed to bring together people from the bourgeois to the aristocrat, from different classes and ideologies. Some figures of great national and international prestige also passed through there, in the field of letters, plastic and performing arts, music, politics and science.

We invite you to visit a unique space in the city, where, in addition to what we have already mentioned, it also has a large bibliographic collection. With a collection of thousands of copies, in which there is a first edition of “Os Lusíadas”, an edition of the Bible dated 1500 and some writings by Fernão Lopes.
